SWIR (Short Wave InfraRed) is the spectrum band between 1 and 2,5 μm.

Those wavelengths bring a lot of informations about several materials such as silicon or water, which physical properties (transparency, reflection) are really singular in this section of infrared emissions.

What is SWIR?

Using a special combination of lighting and sensor, it is possible to see through several components like wafers, plastics or organic materials, and even to highlight the presence of elements such as water or collagen.

Applications

SWIR imaging has many advantages compared to visible or thermal imaging, especially for quality control, sorting or security purposes...

For example, these wavelengths can break through mist, smoke or dust:

SWIR technology needs yet new components, optimized for this range of wavelengths, in order to reach the highest resolution, the lowest aberrations and thus using the whole potential of this imaging system.
